What is Kingston Like?

Kingston is a city of about 123,000 people. One of the older cities in Canada (over 300 years old), it was once the capital of Canada. It’s downtown is very much like some European cities. However, it also has many newer stores, and homes.

Where is Kingston ?

Kingston is located at the eastern end of Lake Ontario in central Canada in the province of Ontario. It is about 2 ½ hours drive from Toronto, about 2 hours drive south of Ottawa, and about 3 hours drive to Montreal.

The border with the United States is about 40 minutes from Kingston,. New York City is 7 hours by car from Kingston.

Kingston ‘s climate is moderate with four distinct seasons. The average winter temperature is –8 ºC and the average summer temperature is 24ºC. Although the spring is fairly short the summer is warm and sunny. One can swim in the many lakes near Kingston, or play any of the summer sport such as tennis, golf, or sailing.

There are many shops and boutiques located downtown. If one prefers a mall, the Cataraqui Town Centre or the Rio Can Centre offer excellent stores
