The Limestone District School Board hosts more than 120 international students each year from countries such as Brazil, China, France, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, Vietnam, and others. Some students come for one semester, to improve their English and experience living in a new culture. Others come for a longer period in order to prepare for entering a Canadian college or university.
We are currently inviting families, especially those who live in central and west-end Kingston, to join our pool of homestay providers. We turn to this pool when an international student seeks a place to live.
Host families provide international students with the support that parents normally provide their own children:
- A nurturing family environment while they study in Kingston.
- A private bedroom, equipped with a bed, desk, and appropriate storage space.
- Three nutritious meals per day.
- Transportation to activities around Kingston, when necessary.
Host families are compensated with a monthly stipend.
Hosting an international student is a highly rewarding experience. Many life-long friendships have developed out of Limestone's international student homestay program.
